Back To The Future

In August 2022, children get oriented toward this month’s theme, the future, by considering what their own future might look like. What is their dream profession or dream house? Children gain more knowledge of various professions by participating in fun and engaging activities.

“Assalamualaikum, Hello, bonjour, buenos dias, guten tag, konnichiwa, ciao, nǐ hǎo, shalom, do brey dien!” and those are the greetings that children hear from various foreign languages in the classroom.

STAR OF THE WEEKS

The Star of the Week is presented each week and receives a special moment during our Get Together session. Basically, it is for children to be familiar with their peers, gain individual attention, promote a sense of belonging and confidence in performing in front of peers. Give a big applause to our Ali, Urwa, Ayaan, Eimaan, Nameera, Xea, Alhassan, Rajamakkah and Jafar, August Stars!

OUR ACTIVITIES

Starting school is a big step for all children and families. While some confident boys and girls take change in their stride, sensitive children need all the help they can get. That is why attending orientation days is very important and we are grateful to our dearest families for making them a priority for our young learners to attend their first week.

During these orientation sessions, children get to know their classmates, meet their teachers, and participate in some introductory activities such as tour the school, brain break, name cloud collage and many more. While the children are involved in these activities, the parents had an IT briefing for an overview of the Spectrum EarlyChildhood Education program.

In the second week, children were introduced to various professions in Chef, Dancer or Maybe a Teacher? activity. They also participate in questioning on different tasks of each profession. In What Will My House Look Like? activity, children started to prepare for the month’s project by getting familiar with various houses and thinking about what their dream home would look like.

In the third week, children had a What’s My Profession activity where they explore various professions by role-playing them and dressing up in work uniforms. They also participate in activities focusing on different professions. Then, in the Floor Plan of My Dream activity, children start to prepare for the month’s project by planning their dream houses.

In week four, children had Phrases in Foreign Language activity where they explore the foreign languages their classroom peers speak. We sing to Hello Children of the World! The project continues in Lively & Eager Constructors activity as children build scale models of their dream houses, based on the plans they made earlier.

At the end of the month, children complete their projects by finalizing their dream houses in Finishing Touch activity. The month ends with children recalling the needs of plants and learning how to grow seed in Let The Plants Grow activity.

WONDERFUL FRIDAYS & MERDEKA WEEK

On every second and fourth week of each month, children will have Wonderful Fridays activities including Play Days as well as throughout week 4 is the Merdeka Week. Thus for this month, we exposed children to the Colorful of Malaysia with love of history, instilling gratitude and having fun in learning were our goals. Children come to school in their Malaysian traditional clothes such as Baju Kurung and Baju Melayu as well as their traditional attire from different countries too. Other than that, they talk about the colors and shapes of Jalur Gemilang, they sing the National Anthem, poster making in I Draw Malaysia activity, as well as playing the famous Malaysian traditional games such as Batu Seremban and Congkak. They also had a chance to taste the wonderful desserts of Malaysia such as Ketayap, Karipap, Roti Canai, Seri Muka, Cokodok, Keria and Sugar Doughnuts.

For Play Days, children had another brainstorming activity on what you want to be when you grow up? From this activity, we can see that children had many hidden wishes, hoping that they could achieve more than one ambition. Next activity is Crawling Colors by Little Scientist where they discover how colors could travel through water.

LEARNING TRIP

Visiting the National Science Center surely makes everyone thrilled and excited. The adventure starts with an exhibit of freshwater aquarium where the young learners are able to see the big fishes swim in the tunnel above their heads. The children have experienced the wonders of science and technology. Yes, they are encouraged to touch everything! The adventure continues when the children discover the animals from prehistoric time, the Dinosaurs!

FAMILY ACTIVITIES

Throughout the month of August, families were encouraged to do the activities with our young learners at home such as talking or sharing stories about their new friends at school. Then in Week 2, Children were expected to share and discuss with their families on what their chosen occupation is. In Week 3, children share with their families their Fantasy Home plans (the drawings, the materials chosen) & prepare to bring the items for the build up activity next week. Last but not least is on sharing the recycling items at home, discussing how we can turn recycled items into toys.
