In Spectrum International School Early Childhood, we have successfully implemented FINLAND’S EDUCATION MODEL. We have recently accredited a certificate that acknowledges our implementation of the Finnish pedagogical approach from the HEI Schools Toolkit. The Finnish education system has been rigorously tested for decades with outstanding learning results. It combines the best and lates tlearning philosophies, models, practices with continuous development to meet the highest standards in education.
The World-renowned Finnish early childhood education emphasizes viewpoints from the child’s perspective. In Finnish early childhood education, learning is understood as a lifelong process. It happens in an active way through curiosity, the will to explore and joy of realisation. Children’s free play is a natural way to learn and play is children’s main activity in Finnish early childhood education.
In Spectrum, we believe that students should be ready not only academically but also as independent Muslims, and that is why we carefully select the best curriculums and tools to develop our future learners. Therefore, we have signed an official agreement with HEI Schools and has become the 1st and only Preschool that follows the Finnish education system that is accredited by the University of Helsinki, Finland for a Teacher’s Toolkit as our Spectrum Early Childhood Education programme, alongside with the Islamic curriculum for the learning progress and holistic development of our children.
We view children as unique individuals with their own ideas, thoughts and needs and we focus on their overall wellbeing, both physical and emotional, along with their education. We foster their participation and autonomy, teach them how to take care of themselves and others and develop their social emotional abilities so that they learn the skills for life. By using the holistic approach, it focuses on paying close attention to the student’s play, socio-emotional, physical language and cognitive development.
The curriculum supports children being active agents in their learning and development in a way that it will inspire them to think with creativity, compassion and resourcefulness. Also, we have integrated a well restructured education with our Islamic values and education. We are using a high quality Finnish education system which gives us the flexibility to integrate the Islamic education and become the 1st and only Finnish & Islamic preschool in Malaysia.
Children start their day with Quran halaqah, where they learn Quran recitation, meanings and verses to match with the monthly themes that we are implementing. The same goes in their Arabic session, we use the Kalemon curriculum to learn the Arabic terms and vocabulary that match the monthly themes. Children’s development is supported by the skills developed such as children’s linguistic and mathematical skills through different everyday activities. We strengthen children’s relationship with nature and the surrounding environment through science and environmental Education.
We focus on building a strong foundation for a healthy way of living which consists of physical activity, nutrition, rest, self-care and care of others. This learning area supports other learning areas and helps children manage their daily life and routines. We support children in understanding the diversity in their local community, as well as the practices that activate respect for diversity. We support children’s growth as conscious human beings and help them to understand what it means to be an ethically responsible member of society.
