The Mission X: ‘Train Like an Astronaut’ challenge was developed to encourage proper exercise and nutrition at an early age by teaching young learners to live and eat like space explorers.

The activities assimilate with science and physical education curricula, with a focus on health and nutrition.

The ‘Mission X Challenge’ program has been active Since 2011 and involves participants from many countries around the world. Developed in cooperation with NASA scientists and fitness professionals working together with the astronauts, the ‘Train Like an Astronaut’ activities are the physical and inquiry-based approach related to human health and fitness on earth and in space.

This Competition is aligned with NASA, ESA (European Space Agency), Esero( European Space Education Resource Office) and UK Space Agency.

PHYSICAL ACTIVITIES

Physical activities utilise the same body parts/systems as astronauts do in training and on missions in space. They help students develop strength, endurance, coordination and spatial awareness.

SCIENTIFIC ACTIVITIES

Scientific activities challenge students to investigate the underlying scientific principles of health and nutrition.

Spectrum International School has entered two teams, the Avengers team and Future Rangers team.

Each team consists of 15 students and 4 teachers (STEAM teacher, Science teacher and Physical education teacher).

The contribution of the students was instrumental. The students have completed more than 90% of the activities in interactive and enjoyable ways.

Spectrum International School is the First School to represent Malaysia in Mission X. The school’s two teams were ranked among the top 20 out of 400 participating teams.

Students practised educational investigations, which are designed for science activities. They also underwent physical training activities. Safety guidelines were provided and followed throughout the program stages

While participating in Mission X, Students practice scientific reasoning and teamwork in hands-on STEM education and physical education activities targeting strength, endurance, coordination, balance, and spatial awareness. For each activity completed, our teams earn points. When submitted through the website, each point earned helps the Mission X mascot, Astro Charlie, walk to the Moon.

Hence, it is a great opportunity for our students to explore and widen their knowledge through an international challenge.
